Car Park Definitions

The car parks on this website are "Publicly Accessible" which is defined as:

A car park to which all members of the public have access provided they comply with the terms and conditions of the operator, these usually relate to charges and / or duration of stay.

 

Definition of Long & Short Stay Car Parks

Long Stay Car Parks are:

1. Where the car park is either a Permit or Contract car park.
2. Where the cost of eight hours parking is less than six times the cost of two hours.
3. Where the car park is Park & Ride.
4. Where an Honesty Box is in use.

 

Short Stay Car Parks are:

1. Where the duration of stay is limited to not more than two or four hours.
2. Where the cost of eight hours parking is greater than six times the cost of two hours parking.

This definition is based upon a concept developed and published by Betts Consulting, and its use is to suggest which car parks are priced essentially for Long Stay use. Local Authorities and Operators may have their own categories which they have based on their own local criteria.
