Ian Betts has been a member of the British Parking Association since 1990, a Council Member since 1991 and the President of the Association in 1995/1996. Apart from in-depth knowledge of Parking Management and Local Government, Betts Consulting has compiled databases of car parks throughout the United Kingdom and car park management statistics information for car parks throughout the United Kingdom. For which in order to ensure that there is a consistent approach it has been necessary to produce a series of DEFINITIONS in English, French, Dutch and German of the types of car parks and there control systems . The definition used on this website for Long and Short Stay car parks was produced by Ian Betts in 2004; car parks for which no charge are made are not covered by the definition which relates only to the cost of parking. Free car parking relies on strict management to ensure the use required is maintained something difficult to maintain when no income from the parking is available to support it.
